Carol Aru

Carol Aru is is a doctoral researcher in the SFB project Speaker's choices in creole contexts: Bislama and Morisien (SFB Register A02); initially via a fellowship at ZAS, and from August 2021 at the Vanuatu Cultural Centre.

Carol Aru's research theme is Bislama, which is an English-based Creole spoken by a broad population in the South Pacific island state of Vanuatu. In particular, she will look at speaker's choices or speaker's choices amid available varieties in a particular situation. She will also investigate the different forms of Bislama that speakers might use depending on the situation or the purpose of the conversation.
