The Library of Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft is a scientific special library for the staff and guests of the ZAS, and also serves as a reference and research library for employees of linguistic institutions and students of linguistic study courses in Berlin and Potsdam. Short-term loan for copying purposes is possible in exceptional cases.
The library has about 58.200 volumes, among them 17.640 volumes on research topics of the ZAS and 40.560 volumes on the subjects German, Romance, Slavic, Baltic, Balkan, Finno-Ugric and East Asian Studies. In addition, there is partial and old stock of 353 linguistic journals. Currently 34 journals are subscribed, 29 of them also available online within the ZAS.

Open access refers to the unlimited and free access to quality-tested scientific information on the internet. ZAS is committed to open access. It thereby follows the „Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities“ and the „Open Access policy of the Leibniz Association 2016-2020“.
In 2017 ZAS has ratified an own Open Access Policy
The Library currently has a stock of more than 1400 grammars to about 600 languages of the world as well as several overviews to language groups and language families, all of which are systematically arranged together in a separate area.
The classification of these grammars is self-created. It's described in three different types of documents:
